Allegory
An allegory is a figure of speech, and unlike a symbol it utilizes a combination of characters, figure, and events to stand for an idea. An analyses of Frankenstein determined that Mary Shelly utilizes Paradise Lost to expand the allegory in Frankenstein. With the character of Victor Frankenstein being God and Pieces being Adam. Victor Frankenstein creates a new life form just as God had done in Paradise Lost. Both creation do not go as intended, because Victor’s creation goes horribly wrong while Adam makes a series of mistakes which ban him from the garden. A parallel is drawn between the characters of Adam and Pieces. Both characters are created and immediately left to their own devices to figure the world out. Just as Adam is surrounded by temptation, Pieces is surrounded by a society which is corrupted.
